Greater is He that is in You

I’ve been thinking about what I should write about lately because I have so many things I want to write about but I think one thing I should speak on is about the diluted Word that is being spoken in churches nowadays. I’m not saying that every church speaks a diluted Word to their congregation, but I think that what we need to speak about is with respect to spiritual warfare. I do believe in teaching people about Godly living etc, because that is indeed necessary; however, we also need to confront the issue of dealing with spiritual warfare, especially in North America.

I find that these days, youth in particular are being introduced into a lot of activities that don’t line up with God’s Word where I find that some are engaging in activities related to New Age Movements and subtle forms of witchcraft. This promotes rebellious behaviour and invites demonic oppression to influence their lives as they continue to engage in activities that do not line up with God’s word.

When I was in middle school, I knew people who took drugs, drank alcohol, slept around and engaged in weird activities such as wicca and witchcraft related activities etc and can tell you that their lives have never been the same since then. Even when I warned people not to participate in some of these activities, some people ignored me and went on to do whatever it is that they wanted to do because they were rebellious in behaviour. No one could tell them what to do and when to do it because no one could “run their lives”. I believe some of them thought I was a “goodie-two-shoes” type of chick, but I simply don’t care how they viewed me, I was more concerned about their souls. Some of the individuals that I tried to mentor came from broken families or single-parent homes and either dropped out of high school because of pregnancy or drug-related issues or illegal activities that got them arrested. However, there were those that listened to me who also allowed me to mentor them with their studies and were able to stop their downward spiral into hell and actually graduate high school with honors. You don’t have to accept a defeatist way of life when God gives you the option to travel on a road that will lead you to prosper.

In the Bible, it is mentioned that “Wisdom cries out in the streets”, but who pays attention?

Wisdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the markets

Job 28:28

And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.’”

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

I remember mentoring a student that was failing miserably and encouraged them by speaking positively into their lives and making them believe in themselves which helped them to do better in their studies. One student I tried mentoring gave me a hard time because he would run off each time I was supposed to mentor him because he was resigned to his failure and didn’t believe anyone could help him graduate . The teachers had given up on the student as well and thought that by offering me extra credit as an incentive to mentor him would eliminate their need to having to deal with this student. I gladly accepted their offer for the extra credit as the incentive to mentor him since they had given up trying to deal with him because I thought to myself “How hard could this be?”.  Boy, did I never see what I had accepted coming.

I remember giving this kid a piece of my mind for running away whenever I had to mentor him and shouted at him for wasting my lunch time looking for him everywhere because I was supposed to mentor him as per the teachers request. I know that he was depressed because he had failed a grade and he didn’t think that he had anything to look forward to because he had resigned himself to being a failure that could not succeed in doing anything, which was a lie that he had chosen to believe whole heartedly even though it was not the truth. He needed to understand that running away from your problems doesn’t mean you are facing your issues. You have to confront that which you fear and face it head on. You can only overcome, when you face what you fear in the face. I gave him a hard time because from what I understand, he’s had various tutors that tried to tutor him but because he kept running away all the time they gave up on him. I on the other hand did not give up on him. I stalked the guy until he couldn’t run away from me anymore. Sometimes, when I look back on the things I did, I think to myself “Wow Sherline, I can’t believe you did that!” lol. At the time, I didn’t really care that I chased him around, because I believed in my heart that this kid was hurting and needed to know that he could achieve success if he tried.

Long story short, I caught him and he no longer ran away from me anymore because he knew I could find him even if he tried to hide. I was pretty relentless so he stopped wasting my time and let me tutor him. After a month of tutoring him, his grades shot up from a D average to a B Average. By the time I was done with him, he was an A average student. He could not believe he could achieve such results. He started to respect me and was grateful that I didn’t give up on him even though he thought he couldn’t make it. I believe that God is like that with us. Sometimes, we resign ourselves to our failures and assume that just because we have failed in something we define ourselves on the basis of that failure. God doesn’t see us in that light. He sees your full potential and where you can actually go if you apply yourself. You are more than what you think you are. You are an overcomer. You can win, you can achieve great things. You may face setbacks, sickness, stumbling blocks, disappointments, and different kinds of hurdles, but nothing can truly stop you from achieving success. The only thing that can stop you is your defeatist mind-set. Just because you fall down, doesn’t mean you have to stay down. You can get up again.  Jesus died for us, but guess what, He rose up from the dead for us . So we all have the ability to rise up from our ashes and dust ourselves off from the past that can’t hold you down from your prosperous future. The resurrecting power of Christ enables us to overcome every defeat and failure we have ever faced and rise from the ashes.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

How we view the concept of “Failure” will determine whether or not we can rise from the ashes. The resurrecting power of Christ should tell you that you can rise from any failure that you face. Your mindset is what you must guard with respect to any obstacle that you face in this lifetime. I have faced my own kinds of hurdles, but the one thing I have decided to do is to keep on going. You know that saying that says “When the going gets tough, the tough keep going”. That is what we ought to do. Just because you hit the ground doesn’t mean that you have to stay there. You can get up again because you have the resurrecting power of Jesus Christ living inside of you that enables you to rise up from the ashes of defeat. Do not allow naysayers to keep you in the realm of defeat when the power of God is saying “Get up and Go!” You have the ability to overcome. All you need to do is believe in yourself. Believe that you have Christ in you, the hope of Glory.

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

I have two songs that are off the hook by Blanca where the first one is called Greater is He to encourage your spirit today.

The second song by Blanca is called Who I Am. I pray that these songs uplift you and encourage you today. God Bless Everybody! 😀
