Forgive Those Who Trespass Against You

Hi Everybody!

So today, I want to talk about forgiveness. Forgiveness is quite difficult to accomplish if you hold strongly to bitterness in your heart. In this world you will have trouble, but remember what the Lord says? He says “…take heart, for I have overcome the world”:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Tame the untameable tongue

It’s not something automatic, it’s something you practice overtime until it becomes second nature to you. There will be countless individuals who will aggravate you, annoy you and push your buttons the wrong way and this is where we as people and as Christians need to develop a level of SELF-CONTROL. It’s really easy to be emotional and curse someone out out of anger, but learn to bridle your tongue. I do not believe in cursing people out of emotionalism. The Holy Spirit has already provided us with the ability to have self-control and cursing someone in the heat of the moment opens up doors in a person’s life that should have been left closed. If you have ever cursed someone with your own mouth (in the heat of the moment), then I suggest that you repent of your actions TODAY and reverse the curse, otherwise the curse will ricochet back to sender if you’re not careful.

James 3:3-12 (NKJV)

The Untamable Tongue

My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed,[a] we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.[b]

So if you have ever used ill-spoken words against another person in the “heat” of the moment, and you know in your heart you really didn’t mean to say such words, I suggest that you stop reading this blog right now and pray a prayer of repentance to God over the things you may have said in anger or out of an emotional outburst cursing someone in the process and seek God’s forgiveness and request that the curse you sent to someone in the “heat of the moment” in your anger that you ask God for that curse to fall down and die and not reap a harvest. It says in God’s Word in Luke 6: 27-31:

Love Your Enemies

27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

Image result for control your tongueThis maybe a hard and difficult scripture for some people to swallow, but the reality is, the forgiveness you seek from God is dependent on the mercy and grace you are willing to show others who do you wrong. It’s not enough to be emotional all the time when someone does something to rock your world. If you fail to forgive, then you automatically will not be forgiven for your own trespasses. Don’t get me wrong here, there are people who may have hurt you and committed very grievous offenses against you which of course are not justified actions on their part, but the fact is, even if they have done those things to you, you still have to forgive. Forgiveness doesn’t release them (the offenders) from the guilt of their own actions; forgiveness is to release your own soul from harboring bitterness against those who have offended you in some way. An offense is used by the enemy to trap two people in a cycle of unforgiveness, and that is why it is important to understand that forgiveness has the power to break that shackle of unforgiveness in one’s heart.

True “Grace” is having the ability to show “Mercy under self-control”.

Do Not Grieve the Spirit

25 Therefore, putting away lying, Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,”[e] for we are members of one another. 26 “Be angry, and do not sin”:[f] do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil. 2Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. 29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Image result for control your tongueForgiveness is not always easy to give, and in some cases some people may need to pray and fast in order to breakdown the hatred that may exist in ones heart in order to forgive. Crucify the flesh that is not wanting to yield to the power of the Holy Spirit that enables us to forgive. The more you forgive the more joy will enter into your heart, however, the opposite is also true, the more you harbor unforgiveness is the more power you give the hatred to rest in your heart.

Do not contaminate your spirit with harboring unforgiveness.

I’m not saying that it’s easy to forgive, and that is why you need to pray and seek the Holy Spirit to give you strength to forgive. However, what I am saying is that there are consequences to those that choose to harbor unforgiveness within their own hearts. Let Go and Let God deal with the issues that you face today, rather than bottling it all up inside waiting to blow your top off on someone unsuspecting that you may indeed have issues within your heart, and that issue is called “UNFORGIVENESS. Forgive and your sins will be forgiven, however, if you retain unforgiveness in your heart, so shall your own faults and failures be retained in the record books of heaven. Let go and let God, Amen! 🙂

 John 20:23

If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

There is also a saying that says, that “In order for Good to triumph over evil, we must overcome evil with Good.”

(Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 10:21).

I have two songs by  by Marvin Sapp called Never Would Have Made It and .  I pray that it blesses your spirit today.

  1. Thank you very much for reminding me to humble myself before the Lord and before man. Forgiveness indeed is very difficult but letting your spirit be free from the burden of negativity purifies the heart. It allows us to realize as well that we are more blessed when we forgive as it gives us the opportunity to be closer to God and by guarding our tongue teaches us self control and to seek wisdom not only to prevent us from hurting others but also to protect ourselves from enemies who are trying to destroy and make us a victim and not a victor. May God bless you more, claiming for your complete healing and may God’s embrace shelter you with His love, grace, mercy and kindness. And also gives you strength always as mentioned in Philippians 4:13 🙂

  2. Thank you for sharing this. I recently walked through a season of forgiving others that I had no idea I even needed to forgive. It snuck up on me and I felt so convicted. Thank you for sharing the scripture and providing some awesome insight.
