The Value of Wisdom – Ponderings in the Book of Proverbs

As you know I love the book of Proverbs and thought that since I wrote a post regarding the Watchman’s Duty – Insight to prophetic Intercession, I think I want to start cultivating divine wisdom as one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Wisdom is so important because it helps us sharpen our discernment and the only way to grow in it is to seek it (Matthew 7:7). Read books, seek wise mentors that build you and challenge you, make it a mission to find knowledge like it was your last meal on this earth. Seek these things diligently and you shall find the answers that you are looking for in your daily affairs, but you won’t be able to find these things if you are sitting on your derriere. I have put a scripture below that I think I’ll start using when I pray for wisdom and meditate on it and seek God for increase. I like sharing stuff like this and maybe you might want to pray too if you want to increase in this area which is one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8). I highlight things that stick out to me on purpose to maintain the focus of what to find important as you read the scripture and basically as a means of targeting what is needed in order for the Lord to fulfill the petition. You do your part and God finishes the rest since  He is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Remember: you can only increase in wisdom according to the proportion of your Faith level, so seek to increase your FAITH in order to gain a high level of Wisdom.

Proverbs 2: 1-22 (NKJV)
The Value of Wisdom

1 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
 Equity and every good path.
10 When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
11 Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you

12 To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things,
13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who rejoice in doing evil,
And delight in the perversity of the wicked;
15 Whose ways are crooked,
And who are devious in their paths;
16 To deliver

you from the immoral woman,
From the seductress who flatters with her words,
17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth,
And forgets the covenant of her God.
18 For her house leads down to death,
And her paths to the dead;

19 None who go to her return,
Nor do they regain the paths of life—
20 So you may walk in the way of goodness,
And keep to the paths of righteousness.
21 For the upright will dwell in the land,
And the blameless will remain in it
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the earth,
And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

  1. Excellent post! I too have been seeking the Lord for wisdom. For wisdom is more valuable than silver or gold. It is so much more valuable than riches untold! “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.” Psalm 51:6 Continue to seek, and ye shall find it. May the blessings of the Lord, rest upon your life.

  3. Great Post. My favorite part is “Remember: you can only increase in wisdom according to the proportion of your Faith level, so seek to increase your FAITH in order to gain a high level of Wisdom.” So many people mistake Wisdom with intellect but Wisdom can not be obtained without acknowledging God. What a wonderful piece I look forward to seeing what else you have.
